[Bards] new to the list do not shoot the question asker

I am new to the bardic list new to performing in Ansteorra No I was not hiding just did not realize no one knew that I could sing, Note to self do not talk under breath next to madog at feast unless one wants to sing at feast. :-)
   
  my question is how does one go about participating in ones first bardic competition when one does not compose ones own music, songs, story's or poems.?
   
  Remember new to this so please temper response for the unknowing
