I think we can sort of "zone" acknowledge. If you pass to close to a 
group of hats and most of them do seem to gather together you can nod 
in the general direction and go on. If you are working on things you 
can just do you job and not worry. Unless you lock eyes with someone. 
If they look at you and you look at them you should do something. 

OK many of you might complain that I sneak up on you in the middle of 
the night. I am not known as the sleuth Duchess for nothing. If I  
sneaks up on you in the Middle of the Night I will forgive you if you 
forget the courtesies. This does not give you the right to call me by 
my first name but if you say M'Lady I will be happy. 

Also, if I trip and fall please don't look down on me and say, "your 
grace?" I would prefer to called your Excellently then. 

Would anyone like to read my article on when to use what titles and 
other things you can say other than "Your Grace" over and over again?
