Greetings,
There'll be dance guild this sunday, july 20th. 6 pm at the Wells Branch
Rec Center. Directions are:
http://www.ianthe.org/sca/dance/dirs.html
Please don't confuse this with the older community center.
Also, I had experimented with submitting the guild info to the Austin
Chronicle (after checking with Jehan that it was ok) and they put us on
this week's chronicle, under the dance listing. Since we've been talking
about recruitment lately, I think it'll be a good idea to also post about
the Fighter Practices. It's free, and they'll put it if space permits.
Here's the wording from the chronicle:
BRYN GWLAD RENAISSANCE DANCE GUILD
Want to try your hands and feet at the rhythms of the Renaissance? This
creative offshoot of the Society of Creative Anachronism (the same SCA
where adults put on homemade armor and bash, slash, and stick each other
with historical accuracy in parking lots and under trees about town) offers
instruction in authentic historical dance from England, Italy, and France,
based on manuscripts of the period. No experience is necessary (no
partners, either) for what was pretty much the only form of participatory
entertainment to be found in castles, palaces, manor houses, and hovels
throughout Renaissance Europe. It's easy to learn (believe me, I've been
there), and there's something romantic to walking the walk of long ago.
Bryn Gwlad meets (usually) on the first and third Sundays of the month at
the Wells Branch Rec Center. Sunday, July 20, 6-8pm. www.ianthe.org/sca/dance.
