This is a once only annual offer. I invite you to reply if it appeals to you. I am hopeful that it will. Otherwise, please delete it with the merriest flourish in the mood of Christmas.

                                    of Nevada County, Calif.

I offer you two well performed, well recorded CDs at a fair price, both of which I am quite certain you would enjoy at this time of year. They were recorded by two recorder ensembles I conduct. Both have received lauds & good reviews. Though the performing ensembles are amateur musicians, the singers on the vocal cuts are not, except for Waldorf children singing an English Christmas ditty on the Xmas CD. Without your critical ears turned up high, you will forget that the performances are by non-professionals. Ask for programs & reviews.

A Medieval Pilgrimage
A Musical Tour Through the Middle Ages
Charming, beguiling, mystical, exciting, earthy, unearthly.....

a concert inspired by the wisdom of the philosopher Boethius (480-524):

"Nothing is more characteristic of human nature than to be soothed by sweet modes and stirred up by their opposites... No age is without delight in sweet song."

You will be lifted out of the 21st century & modern consciousness and transported to wander the countrysides of medieval Europe & step into the courts of popes & kings. You will experience the excitement of rustic peasant dances, the songs of the trouveres, troubadours & minnesingers, the etherial beauty of plainsong, the childlike, charming melodies of the Cantigas de Santa Maria, the intricate polyphony of the English Dunstable, the French Machaut & Josquin des Pres, the Spanish Guerrero, and you will hear the songs of the composer kings. You will lament with Dufay over the fall of Constantinople in 1453, feel the fervor of a soulful Spanish "Ave Maria", be charmed by an English monk's 13th century love song, be stirred to march off to war, salute the king in glorious fanfare, join raucous peasants in a celebration of Bacchus & the vine...

You will be immersed in medieval modes & moods

Christmas at the Castle
Five Centruies of Holiday Music from Many Lands

Prologue: an Introduction of Sounds that Draws YOU into a Christmas Castle:

The horse-drawn sleigh nears the castle, its bells jingling merrily. Suddenly the bell in the great tower chimes out over snowy hills proclaiming the commencement of the Christmas concert. You step from the sleigh and crunch through fresh-fallen snow. The portcullis rises, the ancient door creaks open and you hear sounds of merriment, then a fanfare. Your anticipation rises when you hear the distant drumbeat...

..... and then the concert begins. Oh what magic sounds and musician's tricks do capture your imagination to lure you into a jovial atmosphere of enjoyment! You are charmed by the intimate sounds & moods of Christmas created by that most voice-like instrument, the simple recorder in ensemble with voice, lute, cello & percussion. You will hear familiar & unfamiliar carols & songs as the music takes you to France, Germany, Spain, England, Africa & America. You will be constantly delighted by festive & contemplative music.

"Christmas at the Castle" is a CD you'll play for this and every Christmas hereafter.
