Candle tech mentioned at dance:
- real candles, unshielded or thru the bottom of a cup as in previous
years
Pro:
= real flame
Con:
= real flame + slick floor + darkness + reaching towards sides to
form a line + going under arches formed by other people +
two-handed turns in fewer than 8 beats. Le Bal des Ardents was
period but doesn't fit the Spanish theme.[1]
- electric candles
Pro:
= it would take a really bizarre accident to set someone on fire
= modern ones have nice flickering, so we're told
Con:
= electric. I've not seen them, but when they're the only light in
the hall or seen next to real candles, I don't expect them to look
great.
I don't recall whether anyone mentioned other possibilities. When we
did the fancy-pants Italian(?) one a few years ago, what did we hold
then? I have a vague memory of goblets or globes. Would goblets be
doable?
Dannet Lincoln
[1] Wikipedia says "Bal des Ardents" means "Burning Men's Ball".
So Burning Man is period! Except the period one had four dead,
several injured.
