That's right!  #32 is closing his thumb over the top of the hand of
#31.  The one dancing the man's part should not do that.  (I usually
do it, though I shouldn't.)  That allows the gentleman to squeeze and
trap, or even hurt, the lady's hand.  Even if he doesn't think he'd do
that, when falling or when there's a dance failure, he might do so.
(And I blush to admit that I have.)

Better style is if #32 were to extend his hand flat with the thumb
alongside the rest of his hand.

(An incorrect answer is "they're improper".  It could be one of those
Germanized Italian Ren dances, for example.)
