Thought this might appeal to some folks in Bryn Gwlad.

Sorry for the cross-posting.  I want to make sure I get everyone since not everyone is on every list.

Baroque dance comes
to Austin!

International Baroque dancing stars  Paige
Whitley-Bauguess and Thomas Baird perform authentic Baroque dances in period
costumes, backed by the La Follia Baroque Ensemble. Experience the art that was
performed by no less a personage than King Louis XIV himself. After this
performance, your trip to the dance hall will never feel quite the same again.
Ms. Whitley-Bauguess will present a free lecture on Baroque dance 30 minutes
prior to the start of the performance.

Background

Although many other forms of social and theatrical dance
existed in the world during the Baroque period, the term Baroque Dance is often
used in reference to the French noble dance style and technique of the late
17th- and early 18th-centuries. Cultivated by the dancing masters and dance
activities at the court of Louis XIV, the style greatly influenced dancing in
ballrooms and theatres throughout Europe. French dancing masters were prized
commodities and French dances, via dance notation, were danced all over Europe
while the French dancing manuals were translated (and paraphrased) into various
languages.

The Artists

Baroque dancer Paige Whitley-Bauguess interprets, recreates,
and performs Baroque theatre dance in venues all over the world as a soloist
and with her dance partner Thomas Baird.  Prior to teaming up, they were
both members of the New York Baroque Dance Company, then under the co-direction
of Catherine Turocy and Ann Jacoby.

The duo's critically acclaimed collaborations have excited
and educated audiences in the US, Canada, and Japan, garnering repeat
invitations for the duo to work with some of the finest Baroque music groups in
the world. Highlights include repeat concerts with the Little Orchestra Society
at Lincoln Center and the Pacific Baroque Orchestra of Vancouver, their
reconstruction of the courtly entertainment Le Mariage de la Grosse Cathos in
Tokyo and Shizuoka, Japan, Bailles y Danzas, a program they created especially
for performances with Chatham Baroque, and Harlequin Unmasked, a program of
commedia dell' arte dance and music with REBEL.

Admission:$25 general, $20 senior, $15 student
