Star made mention of those in the dance guild, but not dancing this particular dance, standing in rows on the ends holding candles whilst the dancers danced without candles.

Perhaps this can solve the logistical problems?

Never having been to an SCA Candlemas before, I have no idea what happens. But having planned liturgy at churches for over 20 years I can offer that it would be lovely to have the candle-bearing non-dancers process in first with candles under their faces (perhaps to an instrumental processional) then take their places before the dancers come in.

Or perhaps members from the choir can process singing some music appropriate to the day? Then line the walls whilst the dancers dance in the middle. I have walked and sung with candles many times and I imagine it is still much safer than dancing with
candles.

David

********************************************************************
