Greetings to all the members of the potters guild and anyone else who may be interested,
Jan Van Zandt, Baroness Janais L'orfevre of the Shire of Ffynnon Gath will be coming on the 9th of September to our potters guild meeting. She is a very talented artist and teacher. She has offered her knowledge to us on that day. If you are able to come be there at 9am Saturday morning ready to work. She may be working on the wheel and can give pointers. I have included the correspondence below from her so you will know a little bit about her. I am personally looking forward to meeting her and sharing information with her.
I am yours in service,

Dear Jan,
Looking forward to meeting you on the 9th. I will notify the guild members that you will be coming I know that you will probably be bombarded with questions. If you need anything please call or email me. We used lockerbie wheels at school I loved them. I really wanted one when I got the Clay Boss I have now but the delivery charge made it more expensive than the electric one. Yes the wheel is electric 100lb capacity (not that I could ever throw that much clay but it seems to be worth what I paid for it. Brents have gotten so expensive. I am looking forward to seeing you and be safe traveling.
Sincerely,
Therese

Therese,
Thank you for your reply. I live in San Marcos. My older son lives in Montgomery just north of Houston. I thought I might go stay with him and drive over for the day. Thanks for the offer of crash space, but I am allergic to cats. I'l just bring extra allergy medication in case it is needed. I have some clay, but I will probably just purchase some from you. I'm assuming your wheel is an electric?? I have a kick wheel, but it really pains me to use it these days. Works great on the day I use it, but then I can hardly walk for about a week. I need to put a motor conversion kit on it. It is an old Lockerbie if you know anyone who might have a conversion kit.
I taught high school art for about ten years and loved it. I retired from teaching and opened a tattoo shop in 1993 and also have a permanent cosmetics studio. Those businesses and the SCA keep me pretty busy.
I want to get back into throwing again and then hold SCA classes for our local group. They have been after me forever to do this.:)
So at this time, I do plan on being there Saturday morning, September 9, with tools, etc.
Thanks again,
Jan

Greetings Baroness Janais,
I am not sure where you are but we hold the meetings at my home in Bordermarch (Beaumont) would love to have you come and work with us. We usually work Saturday all day and if there is something we need to finish we work on Sunday afternoon. At this point I have one wheel, a slab roller, and an extruder I also sell the clay if you need it. Lots of space to work when the weather gets a little cooler it will be nice to work outside. I have 2 paragon kilns one is almost working and the other needs a little patching it got hit by a tree during Rita. Or should I say the building it was in got hit and did some damage to it. I am also building a raku kiln. The studio is not real large but 6 to 8 people can work comfortably in the space at a time. I teach art at the high school across the street for the house and I offer evening pottery classes at home. If you were interested in coming and sharing your talents with the group I would love to have you come. I have an extra room if
you are comfortable with cats, I have 4 but if not I know there are other members that would be more that willing to have you stay or there are some comfortable motels in the area also. Let me know and I can let the group know and we can make plans. I have pottery class information on my web site, didn't realize how much time a web site takes to make but it is getting there. Anyway let me know and we can go from there.
Sincerely,
Therese d'Ivoire

Hello,
Please give me some information about the Ansteorran Potters Guild meeting. Are there potter's wheels available or is it just for hand-building? I taught throwing and hand-building techniques for years, but haven't done it in a while and would like to get back into it again. Do you have instructors or do you need instructors?
