[Bordermarch] WAR!

Greetings Unto HE Don Ericus,

We would hope that all involved realize that this perceived tension is well rehearsed. Some may not have access to every bit of information out there, but rest assured, Kingdom Gleann Abhann is, and shall always remain Ansteorra's friend.
Discussion of this gathering between our two Kingdoms has been years in the making. We hope all involved will delve deeper into their persona and have some great fun with what is happening. Your concerns about some taking the banter to heart is well founded. Our future postings will hopefully clear up any misinformation out there.
As friends, Gleann Abhann and Ansteorra will always look for new and exciting venues that open the door and allow us to play together. We may fight to the death on the field of honor, but when evening falls you will find Ansteorra and Gleann Abhann reveling together, sharing their proud moments, discussing strategies for future battles, and finally, wishing all a long life; until we meet again.

HE Santiago

Excellencies,

I find this entire turn of events very distressing.  This is like watching a nightmare unfold, and being unable to wake up.  Bordermarch was a supporter of Gleann Abhann before it was a kingdom.  We supported it's right to exist even to the point of standing beside them against the mighty Kingdom of Meridies, who we had battled with almost perpetually as far back as any can remember.  In those days, Bordermarch was known as the combative child of a war-loving Kingdom!  Often it was asked if we even knew what fear was.  Never was it even hinted that we swerved from a course of action out of fear. Although our judgment may have been called into question from time to time, our valor and our loyalty to our friends never was.  But I digress.  I was speaking of our history with the great Kingdom of Gleann Abhann.  We fostered the children of Gleann Abhann and then - though we loved them as our own, and it broke our hearts to do so - sent them home
with presents and all good wishes when the time came.  We have stood shoulder-to-shoulder in battle with them on foreign soil, for no reason more than that they asked us; and for the joy of that comradeship that is only found when warriors shed blood together.  I have lent my sword and my skills to aid them, and teach them.  I have learned from them in return and, as a people, love them as much as I do Ansteorrans.  Individually, some of them are members of my House and others are brothers in arms which, as any warrior will tell you, is a bond not to be taken lightly! I have traded blows with the finest warriors that this fair Kingdom produced on many a practice field, and have much respect for them as brave fighters and intelligent captains.

Now, it seems that there is a new generation of Royalty who is either unaware of the wonderful history we have, or chooses to forget it.  Before You were born, I traveled to the courts of Gleann Abhann as an official ambassador on more than one occasion, and I can tell You that Ansteorra, and Barony Bordermarch, have been well and graciously received.  It is hard for me to imagine an escalation of the type I have witnessed over these last months happening in those first, bright days.  The rhetoric I have been listening to, while perhaps intended for fun and to build motivation and anticipation, seems to be heading in an unpleasant direction.  It would not be the first time that innocent banter went too far and real feelings got involved. I tell You truthfully, I do not like the tone of this and I am concerned that it may have already gone too far for some who do not know it for what it is.  I would not like to see any irrevocable line crossed, or
the fates of many people affected because a few talked themselves into a corner that they could not get out of without losing "face."

Bordermarch has never required a goad to get involved in a fight (actually, all we ever need is to see someone in armor!), so taunts of us being "afraid" are completely unnecessary - but not without effect.  I would not like to see the perpetual battle we once waged with Meridies transferred to Gleann Abhann.  I would not like for a real rivalry, with its real animosities, to be born out of a pretense.

I believe we can satisfy our desire for combat without creating a real conflict.  I know You both to be mature, responsible people with the best interests of the Barony at heart.  I think a way can be found to have the fun, without the ripples I foresee if this is allowed to continue on the way it is going.  I encourage You, and Gleann Abhann, to turn from this course, and find another.  One which leads to a place we can go to, and return from, at will; with goodwill remaining on both sides.

I advise this in the strongest possible terms, as is my duty, and ask You to send this missive along to Their Majesties Gleann Abhann for Them to consider, as well.

Hoping for the best, I remain

In service to Bordermarch, Ansteorra, and The Dream
Baron Ericus the Silverhand of Bordermarch,
White Scarf of Ansteorra
