Thanks for the update! We've all had enough bad news for a while.  It's good to be reminded that downs are followed by ups...

Subject: [Bordermarch] HE Dena - an update

I wanted to give an update on HE Dena's health. Antoine and I went to visit her yesterday at the hospital. She was in good spirits and said that it was the first day she had really felt good (and finally felt like having company.) She has been through at least 16 surgeries, and faces one more to remove an abscess in her abdomen. Her Dr (the famous Red Duke) came to visit her while we were there, and told her that her chest pains from the previous day were caused by a small clot that was in her lung. They are giving her medication to dissolve it and watching her for a couple more days to make sure there are no others. Apparently, it came from her pelvic region where all the trauma is located. He told her that she would have the abscess surgery next week. He had told her the previous day that after the abscess surgery she could be transferred to a facility (yet to be determined) in Austin where her care would be given to a former student of Dr Duke's (whom
he trusted to operate on himself, personally.) She is looking forward to going to the new facility and being closer to Dyffed - where he can come and see her every day. They are thinking either a rehab facility or an assisted-living or some kind of nursing facility; not another hospital.

She is finally feeling better - huzzah!!! and she wishes to let everyone know she loves them and thanks them for cards, emails, and phone calls. She cannot answer the emails that the hospital prints out for her (sent from the hospital's online system) but she gets a printed copy and is very happy to get them. You may go to this link to send her an e-greeting - she is in Memorial Hermann, Texas Medical Center (there are quite a few to choose from on the drop-down menu.)
