I'm still reeling from shock myself! as soon as I find out more info I'll pass it on.

A jilling stick was use pre 15th century to snap a wasp nest from it's secured location. The stick was always cut from the third branch from the ground on a young willow sapling. The jilling stick had to have a smallish crook on it's end to be able to snag the wasp nest. The peasants would use soak the nest in the lye solution made from passing water through oak charcoal. After a few minutes of soaking the nest will have turned a pale yellowish color and could be separated into many varied sized sheets of whats been called "Peasant's Parchment". Not many examples of this parchment remain due to it being made from bee spit.
