Greetings Bryn Gwlad!
Today's forecast highs are from 100 degrees to 102 degrees. With the relative humidity hovering around 40%, this gives us heat index (what your body feels and reacts to) temperatures between 111 and 116 degrees. Add the sun load (approx. 15 degrees this time of year) and you have potential temperatures of 125 to 131 degrees during the afternoon hours.
"How does this apply to me at PiP?", you ask? "PiP is in the evening when the sun is going down."
Remember that the cement tennis courts act like a giant heat sponge, soaking in all that solar radiation and releasing it back at night. That means that even at 9 p.m. at night, it can still be over 100 degrees on the tennis courts. Also, we have a hot, dry wind added to the mix.
I have said all this this to say this: Remember to hydrate yourselves properly! Plenty of non-caffeinated, low (or no) sugar liquids - at least 12 ounces every hour (the equivalent of a can of soda pop).
Be safe, drink lots of water and have fun!
In Service there is Honor!
