I once managed to get through three years of a job before the realized that 
I didn't have an "other duties as assigned clause" on my job description.  
Didn't keep me from doing them, though.  But then, I'm generally helpful.

To extend the military theme, however, you took the coin, you do the job.

Sergeant, hmm?  I think I might have outranked you as Guard Exec, but the 
rank structure has changed since my retirement.

Call me a stickler but neither is there a "other duties as assigned
clause" ... or I'm just blind or didn't read the fine print ... or si the
military theme taken a little too far and my recruiter lied  ; )
