When: Thursday Dec. 7th from 7pm to 10pm
Where: My house in southwest Austin (email me for the
address)
What: The continuation of Spaulderfest!
Menu: Chili con carne (No actual carnies were harmed
in the making of this meal.)
Who: Anyone interested is welcome. Send me a note if
you're coming for dinner so we have enough.
What to bring: We were short on ear protection last
week and it was pretty loud. Even disposable ear
plugs work pretty well. Gloves and goggles are good.
Closed top shoes and non-synthetic fabrics are
recommended if you want to do your own heat treating.
Vinegar can help speed the cleaning of forge scale off
the final piece, and the last of mine evaporated.
In last week's episode we got all the pieces cut out
(thanks to Giotto and Lyonel) and the edges smoothed
(thanks to Barnet) for 6 spaulders. After all the
deafening hammering by all parties there's only one
more cop which needs the final dishing. Ty did the
last adjustments on his spaulders before we heat
treated them, and they're ready to clean up and mount.
Uther made some progress on his helm, and Giotto and
Lyonel kindly remounted my wobbly beverly shears.
So we have the lames to curl (it's pretty fast) a
little more dishing, planishing, curling, firing,
quenching, tempering, polishing and mounting.
Oh- work's been pretty busy lately, so I probably
won't get home until shortly before 7. If you show up
too early you might end up loitering in the cold.
