[Bryn-gwlad] Being Ignored

As a relative newcomer to the SCA, I can see how Susan feels and would like to thank her for bringing this out in the open. This thread does sound very much like a conversation that was had after dinner at Steppes Warlord not too long ago.
I would like to change to a positive note before we beat ourselves up too badly. I have seen a genuine interest in this concern by some of the more established members (she knows who she is without mentioning names) and have seen a lot of interest in the new members. Isabelica has taken significant steps in meeting and greeting new members. I have seen her approach people and members are now starting to bring new members to her when they arrive. She can not do this alone, and we all should do our part to make people feel welcome. Granted most of us seem to have one or two particular areas of interest, but it is imperative that we all work to make new people feel welcome, never know they may have the same interests as you do.
The suggestion that Aurelia made seems like an outstanding one to me. A simple announcement at PiP asking if there are any new people there. I know for me I am still learning who is new and who is not so it would be a big help to know.
OK, that is my two cents (three with inflation) but I was glad to see this thread and in the short time I have been a member have seen steps in the right direction.

I think that's a great idea, i suggest we end all "announcements" with
that question, instead of "are there any other announcements".
Ask the new folks to raise their hands and the hospitaler will take care
of the rest. ( I hope)
If we want to risk embarrasing them, ask them to say their names and
what they are interested in.. Then the appropriate folks can back up the
hospitilar.
