Welcome ALL unto our hall!

One of the qualities that first attracts many people to the SCA is that it looks
FUN (and it is). However what keeps many people in the SCA are the good FRIENDS
they have here. Both are important.

Bryn Gwlad is a friendly barony and we are glad when people are interested in
the SCA. We are also a very active barony, which is why there are often
meetings as well as martial activities at the park. Sometimes people bring
harps or guitars to play, and we’ve even had dancing at the park. The
activities which attract people may cause others feel left out. However this
is never intentional.

I am delighted to greet visitors and guests to Bryn Gwlad, as everyone in our
barony is. I am also glad to welcome members from other SCA groups. It is
heartwarming to see inactive members becoming active again. We have many
younger members who enjoy playing at the park or at our events. It is also
good to greet old friends whenever we are together.

It is important to welcome everyone to our barony and there have been some great
ideas expressed on this list. It is my hope that those who are new will also
introduce themselves to others. It isn’t always easy to do, however it is
worth doing. Everyone at the park was once a newcomer, and it is something we
all have in common.

Once you’ve met someone, then what? Ask questions, find out what interests you
share, and then pursue them. Try fighting or singing or learn how to weave.
Attend a newcomer meeting or a guild meeting. Please contact myself, our
officers or guild principals if you wish more information.

This counsel is for experienced members as well as newer members. There is
always something more to learn and something more to do. One of these days I
am going to make a hurdy-gurdy and learn to play it. I am going to learn how
to drum for our middle eastern dancers. I would like to learn illumination.
I've always wanted to learn how to make pottery. And I look forward to the
fellowship I will share as I grow.

Welcome new friends, old friends, all,
Gold and silver in our hall.
