Exactly. It's the newcomers who need hand-holding the most. How else will they know who to ask for, or even what to ask?  In my opinion, it's best to assume that there are new people nearby, and assume they could use a little guidance. Better safe than sorry.

I think I'm going to have to disagree. With so much going on in the SCA, we 
kinda do need to lead people by the hand. At least at first. We shouldn't 
expect them to be able to do it without help from the beginning. And that's 
what we've been hearing for a while from quite a few people - that we're 
falling down on the job when it comes to newcomers. There have been 
exceptions, but it's something we hear over and over again.

If we don't do better at getting AND KEEPINg new people, the SCA will die 
out. Possibly quite literally.
