Wow! this has been an interesting topic. Most of the time I just lurk but on this I feel that I have to say something. First off I haven't been in the SCA all that long. (only 6 years). Things have changed in Bryn Gwlad since I started. When I started I had to ask the awkward questions and find my own way into this game. Now we have people willing to invite Newcommers into their homes to help them get an understanding of what we do. In fact the first Bryn Gwlad event I went to I got pounced by a Lion for not knowing who was The Baron of Bryn Gwlad (Sorry your Excellency Pendaran, but at the time I only knew of Baron Dore because of the conversations of the persons around me). I understand the need for recruitment but to break us all down into AGE groups does, in my opinion, diminish us. and as for the thought of a dwindling society...I feel that we all have a responsibility to pass on what we learn. If we don't take the effort to bring others in to the SCA, then when all
of us are Dons, Knights, Laurels, and Pelicans. Who will be the Cadets, Squires, Apprentices or Proteges? When I started it wasn't about how old the people I hung out with, it was what can I learn from these great and wonderful people who do many many kool things! I have always liked making things, just to see if I could. Unfortunately, I had to limit my projects to what I could keep. But in the SCA now I have people to give stuff to. I have people that know a wide variety of skills and are willing to teach! So when I can I do what I can to pass on the spirit of learning whether it be on the Rapier field or A&S or Service. and If asked a question and I don't know the answer then I point them out to someone who does. In service there is Honor, how better to honor those that have been here then to introduce them to someone new.

Well that's my 2 pfennings worth,
