Several people were concerned about my dog, so he's
his little update:
A few days ago Arthur was starting to look much
better, but then developed a fever.  They decided to
operate again, and found that the repair to his
intestines was leaking a bit, causing an infection in
his abdomen.  They cleaned that out, and re-stitched
his small intestine.  He's on a feeding tube, and has
a lot of swelling due to low protein levels for which
they're giving him plasma and packed red blood cells. 
The doctors say that after all this he has about a
50/50 chance of pulling through.
