[Bryn-gwlad] Middle Eastern Drum Guild meets today

Looking for something interesting to do today between 4 and 6 pm? Always wanted to participate in a hafla but just weren't sure what to do? Or better yet, have you ever participated in a hafla, only to get quizzical looks from the other drummers after about ten minutes?
   
  Then come on down to the Middle Eastern Drum Guild's Sunday workshop, at the Wells Branch Rec Center! Why, it's just a couple blocks east of MoPac on Shoreline Drive!
   
  We are expected to have some newcomers today, so we will be going over the fundamentals of Middle Eastern drumming and how to play the doumbek. If you've never come out but have thought about it, now is the time! I often hear people say "well I'm already behind, I can't learn from the beginning and catch up to everyo--" YES you can! Stop that negative double-talk! Persons of all skill levels, including zero, can be accomodated... especially today!
   
  And for those who already have experience, please attend as well, because your steady rhythm will provide an anchor and tether for new people to grasp hold of. Plus, and more importantly, people of all technical skill level can still benefit from practice in following the circle lead, maintaining tempo and volume, and blending their individual instrument with the overall texture... which are principles offered at every workshop, at no extra charge!!
   
  Seriously. My one goal is to improve the overall level of drumming in Ansteorra to support the dancers and improve haflas beyond drone circles and into the true art form that it can be. YOU can do your part! And have a rolling good time at the same time.
   
  Hope to see plenty of eager souls out there!

  P.S. the extra drums have been spoken for, but even if you don't have a drum yet, a large margarine tub with lid makes a surprisingly good stand-in. Don't be afraid to improvise... the real key is getting the principles in your hands. Anyone is encouraged to come!
