Take Loop 123 to FM 696/112. Turn Right just before the Volunteer Fire
Department. Continued below.

Continued from the turn at the Volunteer Fire Department: After the S-curve
turn Right on Lee 320. Stay on paved road until it ends (about 5 miles).
Continue for 3 more miles. Turn left on Lee 319,
follow for .3(3/10) mile. Site Gate is on the right.

The sign placement was very helpful, after finally deciding to drive on down
696 far enough to see the next sign, we had no trouble and was in a much better
mood by the time we reached the site. The mileage in the last section of
directions helped a lot.

The second factor in the reason I got confused at the first VFD was that the
directions did not say to drive all the way to Lexington, only to turn on the
road to Lexington. Actually, on first reading the directions before leaving
for the event, I assumed that the VFD mentioned would be in Lexington. I
didn't realized that assumption would be a problem until coming to the VFD that
was not in Lexington. I then looked back to the directions for conformation and
found none. I guess we don't necessarily notice assumptions until verification
is needed.

I am sorry that such a detail has become a major point of discussion and
apparently is hurting some people's feelings (judging from the defensive tone
of the letter I am replying to). It was a wonderful event, great site--it was
nice to not hear the buzz of civilization or have the night sky hidden by light
pollution. The feast was excellent and the event overall was well managed.

My intent is not to blame anyone, but to point out a possible area for
improvement and bring attention to a detail that I would not be surprised to
hear gets sort of left by the wayside in the myriad preparations for such a
wonderful event.

I do hope that this note helps and doesn't make anything worse.

a doubtful traveler.

Kirsten

In after thought--if this discussion makes everyone more aware of directions,
maps, and such, good and bad, perhaps by giving positive reinforcement to those
who excel at creating them will end up helping us all in the long run.
