I would contact Master Iolo at New World Arbalest (a web search should find him). He specializes in crossbows, but he is not limited to them (or anything else, for that matter). He is very generous with his (considerable) knowlege, and is easy to apprioach with querries - even for strangers (not that he has ever met one.......)

  Ever in service,
  Lord Marion de la Massue
  House Brick.

  All,

Thanks for taking the time to read this. This message is a
special request to the bowyers among us:

One of the Medieval History professors here at UT in Austin is
an ex-carpenter, and has been constructing a longbow for some time. He
is now prepared to string it, and has asked me to see if I can find
two things for him: a linen string for the bow, and a person with the
expertise on how to properly set it for the first time. If any of you
are knowledged in either or both of these areas, please let me know.

Thank you once more, everyone.

Yours in Service,
Vaclav
