Sean,
I've done a couple hauberks many years ago, and a
mail avantail has been part of my harness for quite
some time. Most of what I do now is plate steel.
Both are cool. I just find plate to be more fun to
make, and more effective for the kind of fighting I
do.
There's a gathering every Tuesday in the park just
off Airport Blvd. from 7 to about 10pm. Feel free to
come by. It's a big crowd with a lot of stuff going
on, so you'll get to see a little of what the SCA
does. There are generally rapier duels and the heavy
weapons combat going on at least. Most branches of
the SCA, including ours have folks called hospitallers
or chatelaines designated to show new folks around.
You can ask for one and someone will point you to a
friendly person to introduce you around. That's part
of my job too as a knight, though I'm kind of new to
the Texas, so I might not be able to introduce you to
quite as many folks.
Feel free to track me down if you can come. I've
got a white gryphon on my shield. Ask for Sir Gaston.
I'll probably be having another open shop in the
future, and I know Giotto used to have one regularly
too.
  Zach/Gaston
