[Bryn-gwlad] heraldic stuff

Between school and my own laziness I have not posted
much recently, but there is much that I need to say.
I'll summarize.

1) The Sunday after next, that's the 21st if I'm
reading my calendar right, I will be leading a voice
workshop at McNiel Park in Round Rock. This will be
coincidental with the archery practice. I would like
for any voice heralds, bards or those who aspire to be
either to attend. Those with experience can help
those without, and we can all learn a few things from
each other. I am looking at covering the basics such
as:

- Projection, what it is and how to do it.
- Care and feeding of the human larynx
- Tips for sounding 'medieval'
- Tips for sounding like you know what you are doing
- Whatever else seems appropriate that people want to
work on

I would like to hear from anyone who thinks they will
show up. I have asked Don Dore and Don Conor to be
there to assist, and both have agreed, schedules
permitting (i.e. I haven't asked them again with a
specific date in mind). If anyone has topics that
they would like to broach, I would love to hear about
those as well.

2) I have announced at PIP, but have not here, that
the consultation table at PIP will now be done every 3
months. The next one will be in July. Regular
meetings at my house will still happen as before,
Commentary on the second Thursday, Consultation on the
fourth Thursday of the month. Of course I will try to
answer questions as well as I can at any time.

3) I need one or more deputies. There are many
things I would like to be doing with this office.
Some of them we are doing, some not so much. Between
school and upcoming fatherhood, my time is only going
to have more demands on it. I would like help, anyone
with an interest in any aspect of heraldry will be
welcome. Knowing much about it is not a requirement.
Things that the office does, or that I would like it
to do, that I could use help with include, but are not
necessarily limited to:

1) Research on names. All names have to be fairly
painstakingly documented. This isn't really my
strongest suit. Research nuts are welcome.

2) Assisting with commentary. This area is going
quite well, but coming over and nit-picking peoples
submissions is fun in a sort of geeky, twisted way.
The more the merrier.

3) Co-ordinating voice heralds for events. I would
like more activity here. Good site, court, and list
heralds make a big impact on the feel of an event. We
have good people doing these jobs, but the list is
fairly short. I think many people enjoy the feeling
of being a part of the action instead of a spectator,
and I would like to encourage them to do so.

4) Heraldic presentation. There have been a lot of
good ideas proposed in this area, but it is the one
that is least central to my job. This means that I
can't devote a lot of energy to it unless others are
helping me. Right now we are working on an online
roll of arms for the barony. There has been much
discussion concerning guild banners, honor shields,
and other forms of display that would need to be
co-ordinated barony wide. Any of these projects is
deserving of a full time, or much time devoted deputy.

My point is, that if you ever thought you might want
to do something in the heraldry line, I assure you we
can find something for you to do that will fit in with
your talents and interests.

Laszlo
