I have spoken with the Round Rock Parks and Recreation director on
this, prior to the election.
He said that it will take a couple years before McNeil gets shut down.
It won't happen until new ball fields are built at Old Settler's park,
to make up for the capacity they would lose by closing McNeil Park.
I asked where else in Round Rock we could set up an archery range, to
include crossbows. He stated we could freely use ANY of their parks,
including Old Settler's Park. Just pick a location we feel is safe, and
do as we have always done. We have a solid reputation with them for
safe conduct and no complaints.
As for Austin... Forget it. No discharging crossbows in city limits.
Period. Not even on an authorized range. Any other archery has to be on
a licensed range, and it's difficult to get such a license.
Technically, it is not even legal for us to use Don Shamanio's land for
an archery competition. We only get away with it because it's such a
large private landholding, and no one but invited guests can see us. It
is unlikely that anyone would bother us on his land, unless a formal
complaint was filed. Like, say, if someone did something stupid, like
firing arrows at a passing boat on the lake.

BG Archery Marshal
