I have seen a great deal of discussion regarding spine
weights for wood bows. Most of the glass-backed
recurves and compound recommend that you spine
slightly heavier than the draw weight. Selfbows seem
to have some dispute. I've seen sights that make the
same recommendation (or simply don't have a separate
table for selfbows). I have had bowyers recommend
that you go with a slightly lighter spine weight for
selfbows. I am personally trying to match the two as
well as possible (I keep changing draw weights as I
overcome a shoulder injury, so this has been a bit of
a challenge). I would recommend that you try a couple
of different spine weights and find the one that works
best for the bow. Perhaps trying an overlap that is
lighter and one that is heavier. This is easy enough
if you plan to fletch yourself. I find 3 Rivers to be
adequate enough. Their selection is fairly good but
there prices are just so-so. I have gotten fletching
supplies from a couple of ebay dealers.
Bullseyefeathers and Missarchery both have some good
products at fairly good prices (some of their prices
are comparable to those I get from our company's
fletcher). Bullseyefeathers has a larger selection
but Missarchery has some trueflight feathers. Both
are responsive sellers and ship promptly.
