I haven't done any research on quilting, but while researching hemp corded
corsets, found some intersting info about Trapunto (for reference, it's
quilting whole cloth, then stuffing the quilted bits to make it more 3-d).
There is a fabulous Trapunto doublet in a late period Italian painting of a
"ball player".
