Well as some of you know I've been taking Irish Dance lessons - it's
one of the toughest things I've ever purposely put myself through -
practicing twice a week has really been tough on the body but so
rewarding on so many levels - well this weekend is/was the Feile
Houston, an Irish Dance competition that had as many as 300 people
competing, and at least 70 adults. My first dance was the Reel, very
much a beginners dance but I was shaking so badly that I'm sure it
registered on a Richter Scale somewhere - the floor was a bit slick,
and the tape on the floor even more so - I did okay, but all things
considered I'm proud of my performance - my second dance was the Light
Jig - about 3/4's the way through the dance my left ankle rolled over
and I heard a loud POP as I fell to the floor - okay, so now I've
really experienced the most pain in my life :) - It didn't break,
but swollen and hurting - I think it was a combination of the floor
and tape ...
I didn't do so bad, although I was only scored for a single dance, I
took 6th out of 17 adults in my bracket. My school took 1st, 2nd, 3rd
and 4th in those two dances - I've not seen the rest of the scores
from the other students.
You know, we walk around in our day to day lives not seeing a single
Irish Dancer short of St. Pats day, and then low and behold HUNDREDS
of them, and in the same place even! It was a blast!
So I'm back in Austin, foot elevated, watching tv and eating bonbons :)
Cheers everyone!
Rhiannon
