[Bryn-gwlad] Armouring night Thursday: spaulders

Sir Lyonel,
1. Ce n'est pas beaucoup d'argent. Je ne demande
rien.
2. I already have a pattern that works pretty well.
Like most patterns I adjust and improve it every time
I use it, and it can be scaled to different sizes. It
makes a pretty good spaulder. It looks quite a bit
like the ones you wear, except the bottom edges are
straight, rather than very slightly pointed.
3. Cutting, smoothing and dishing could
(theoretically) be done in an hour, and the heat
treating could be done after that. Getting them red
hot, quenching and tempering takes a little over an
hour for peices this thin. If we don't dawdle it
could be done in an evening. The polishing and final
assembly would probably take another hour depending on
what kind of final look you want. If you like the
look of forge scale (which I might even recommend if
you're doing hidden armour) it's a 15 minute job.
4. I prefer to drill the holes before heat treating,
since it's easier on the drill bits, but it can be
done afterwards.

If there's enough popular interest we can do this
again soon.
  Gaston
