Strange, isn't it, how things happen at certain times?.............
I write to you as proprietor of Sherwood Forest Archery. We are a loose
affiliation of people who share two loves - Archery and Renfaires. Everyone who
shares either of these is always welcome to join us in our endeavours. Our
focus is the preservation and promotion of period archery - with special emphasis
on teaching and safety and longbows and recurves. Several members have
expressed an interest in crossbows, but we do not have an active contingent as yet.
As a group, we operate an archery range at several Renfaires, and have done
demos at local schools on occasion. All money generated by our operations
goes directly back into the group - currently into building our permanent
facility. Our ranges are supervised at all times by one or more certified
instructors. We currently have a bevy of Level One certified instructors and several of
us are seeking higher level certifications, which will enable us to begin
training instructors as well as archers. We especially welcome into our ranks any
with bowyer and/or fletcher skills they are willing to share and teach. We
are still in our infancy at this time, but have a permanent facility well under
way on land owned by one of our members approximately halfway between Bastrop
and Lockhart, about 5 miles off Hwy 20, If you Mapquest Pebblestone Rd,
Dale, TX, you will get a very good idea of where our facility is located. Travel
time from South Austin is 45 minutes to 1 hour, depending on how fast one
drives. Our facility is usable, even though incomplete, and is available by
arrangement most any time there is not an event going on there. We are currently
out every weekend the weather permits, working on our building, which is about
50% complete. When finished, it will be an ideal location for archery events,
as it will be very versatile for virtually any style. The only restrictions
at this time are that it will not be available when there is an event, other
than to participants of the event.... but there will most likely be
opportunities for an archery show as part of the entertainment, if there is sufficient
interest. I would welcome the opportunity to discuss details with you in
person. Please call me at 512 799-0413 at any time. If for any reason I cannot
take the call, please leave me a message including when the best time to call you
back, and I will do so at my earliest opportunity.
