LOL...In period, it wouldn't even occur to you think about it because it was
just a fact of life like mud. All that stuff, including house waste was
commonly just tossed into the streets...which is why the wooden shoes and
platform shoes came into being. It was also a reason why ladies
traditionally walk on the inside of the sidewalk and rarely walked on the
streets period.
