The price of gas to get to Gothic = $45, the price for the site fee $10.00, the price for food = trivial, the price for new garb purchased at Gothic = way way too much, the price of seeing my tent floating in the morning and a great time with everyone = PRICELESS .
Those that missed Gothic this year missed a fun event. I learned my lesson on where to put my tent and not listen to the advice of a local to the site. My first impulse was the site I picked for my tent could flood and I should have listened to my instincts (it has been several years since I had to pick sites). In the area I tried to reserve it was the most likely to flood and I am glad I took it myself just in case. When I woke up this morning the floor felt a little strange like I was walking on a waterbed. Only a couple of spots had a little water but I heard people outside and I guess when they heard me inside suggested which door to exit. Yes for the most part my tent floats and the floor did not get wet till I started moving around and packing.
Even with the rain the weekend was a blast and the people up there made me feel welcome. Several people had told me that I should meet people from Rolling Thunder and they were right. If you have not had a chance to interact with them yet, look for them at events, very good people.
Had a chance to watch the Royal Archery Hunt and have to say it was very well done. I do wish I had not listened when I was told that archery this weekend was combat only since I did not bring my bow or crossbow ( I would have come in dead last but it still would have been fun). The people from the independent Archery Company in the kingdom are very nice and I even had the chance to get a combat arrow making session.
Well hope everyone had a good weekend.
