[Bryn-gwlad] Melee fun

Hi All,
See below about a melee "game" that sounds like a lot of fun. We
should try this sometime.
Gideon (who was just informed by the doctor I may be able to fight
again in the not too distant future)
Quoted from a discussion:
"After the pas we usually play two or three games of "Mordain's Rings"
adapted from the game "hadaul" in Jack Vance's book *The Face*. There
are three concentric rings, and all fighters start in the inner ring.
If you are killed you go to the next outer ring, and so on until you are
out. You can be pushed out of the ring, too. Temporary alliances are
OK, but only one person can be in a ring at the end. There is a prize
split 3/2/1 between those who take the rings, though of course one
fighter can clear the rings and get the whole prize. (Guess what the
prize is -- it's a simple mathematical problem.)
This is a really neat game, and owes its SCA incarnation to Viscount
Mordain Blackcloak who keeps it from getting out of hand by acting as
chief referee in good late medieval style. If the game is bogging
down, he tells people to fight or die. More important, once it looks
like people are getting tired, he says, "no more." This is a great game
for sleazy betrayals of former friends, but people have to be in control
or else it would be a bloodbath."
