I can help out.  I don't know anything about modern bocce, but am 
familiar with the rules for period boules ("open bocce") as described 
by Modar Neznanich at 
<http://www2.kumc.edu/itc/staff/rknight/Bocce.htm>.

By the way, I don't know whether Vilhiálmr got them out of the shed or 
not, but the MoC supplies include a scaled-down set of wooden boules I 
put together for the kids.
