Izzy,
We need to talk.
When we are being requested to add 'color' to an event
being held by Richard or in association with Richard,
we need to have very (I hate to say this, but it is
simply a fact) STRICT CONTROL of the quality of
costume and personality type that is invited to
participate.
In a sense, this is the payment Richard asks of us to
allow us use of his lands free of charge. We need to
bring a presence that adds to the ambiance of the
event, not in fact distracts from it. Which you and I
both know there are members of our Barony which will
do just that.
Also, this isn't really a Demo, so any SCA
advertising, should be handled in a pleasant and
discrete manner. I know there are those in the Barony
that (for lack of a better term) slobber over any one
that shows any interest in what we do. That is hardly
ever appropriate and it is not appropriate at an event
we are being asked to act in this capacity.
Next time, actually anytime, we have a request for a
demo or a presence. Please at least inform me and the
Barony prior to announcing it to the general populace.
It be case in fact that there are some demos we won't
do (perhaps we know something about the requestors
that you don't) or we need to limit the number or type
of participation (such in this case).
I will be the villian in this particular case and lay
down the criteria for participation. If you want to
and can. Please come a littel early to the Business
Meeting tonight and we can discuss this further.
