[Bryn-gwlad] Period-icity/appropriateness of a tent?

It, of course, depends on how authentic you'd like to be. If you would
like for it to be from your time and place (not sure what/where that
is), this probably would not work for you as seeing that their
documentation says it's post period.
*However*.....
I would applaud anyone making at least this level of effort at making
their camp look less mundane. It's not plastic, it passes for that
ubiquitous term "Period(tm)" and I know I wouldn't laugh you off the
site.
If you really like this tent, think it is within your time and place and
really want to prove it, then do some additional historical research on
tents. But, that would be more for your own peace of mind than anyone
else's...no one's going kick you off site if you're off by a few years.
;-)
As to quality, Sunforger is good stuff. If they offer a flame retardent
treatment, I'd take it (that's what my pavilion has and it's lasted for
15 years).

Subject: [Bryn-gwlad] Period-icity/appropriateness of a tent?
To all who might know:
I was idly browsing a number of recommended sites for general recreation
items and came across a website that seems to mostly cater to 17th
century and later objects. I was about to click away when I saw a link
for tents and decided to take a gander, figuring that they might have
something appropriate for a reasonable price.
Here is what I came across:
http://jas-townsend.com/index.php?cPath=19
Now, the wedge tent near the bottom of the page looks like a hundred
different tents I've seen on a hundred other websites. As far as I can
tell it's an old and traditional style of tent-dwelling. The bell-backed
tent at the top interests me more, though: does anyone know whether this
tent could pass? I know I have seen bell wedges on other sites
proclaimed to be period, but before I drop $300 (and the price is right,
even if the tent isn't very big; heck, even if it doesn't have a
groundcloth I'm okay with spending $300 for a period tent) I want to
know if I would get laughed out of the site.
Additionally, if anyone has insights as to the company itself or to the
apparent quality of the tent I'd be glad to know.
Thanks!
~Sophie
