I was at the meeting as well (or let me say) I've been to several meetings
where the whole Championship stuff has been discussed. I remember the
reason why..... it was because a percentage of the Populace was feeling
like there was too much going on and people didn't get to do or see or
participate in everything they wanted. The idea of dividing up the
Championships was a group decision but no one could finalize how this was
to come about. I know individuals don't like having Bardic at the Fall
event because no one goes to it, or it gets relegated to some weird time
because of a play which might be going on as well -- some people don't like
having Equestrian because the time it involves cuts into other stuff. (
FYI - I'm relaying complaints I have heard from people..... not necessarily
my own opinions.)

The topic comes up on a regular basis and we slowly slide back to the same
situations and the same complaints.... either a group feels slighted or a
sizeable number of people feel too overworked and such. While i think the
group should be flexible, it also comes to mind that we should make some
sort of decision about how to handle it and stick to it without rehashing
the same thing every two years or so..... unless that's what the group
wants to do. (rehash things every so often). I don't mind that but I
really would prefer the group tries new things rather than going back to
the same thing.

Even if we leave it up to the stewards when they place their bids in, then
the group at the meeting can say yea or nay to what Championships are
offered and control it that way. i know this year after Isabella submitted
her bid and it was approved, she's had to go back in and accommodate people
who didn't bring up the issue at the meetings but talked to her privately.

My personal opinion is that I don't care what goes on at an event, it's the
quality of the event that is the most important. It's far easier
controlling ambiance and continuity to have an event that isn't a broad
spectrum of activities than it is to produce a patchwork of things to see
and do that results in a fragmented event.

Regards,

Clare
