[Bryn-gwlad] championships

And I agree with you there too Clare. I've also noticed the ground is a
bit harder and rocker than it was XX number of years ago...maybe it's
all the rain we've gotten lately?! ;-)

Personally, I view this as a marketing and PR thing. And like you said,
if the event isn't interesting enough for you to make a full weekend out
of it, then we're not meeting the needs of our target market (sorry for
the corp. plug there). Yes, it is more work than a 1 day event. But I
think everyone knows my thoughts on that. Great efforts bring about
great rewards.

I spoke at length with Baron Edwin this past weekend about the current
mellowing of interest in trying to be authentic in the SCA (for those on
this list that may not know him, Edwin is a long time Ansteorran, Bryn
Gwlad citizen from some years back and now Chairman of the Board of the
SCA)...and he brought up an interesting point that I had not considered:
The SCA's biggest competitor is multi-player online games. Case in
point....why pack up all your SCA stuff and go to an event for a full
weekend when you can role-play *much more effectively* with your friends
in a online environment in the comfort of your own home?

Something to consider moving forward.

I agree. I used to go Friday night and stay over until Sunday. Friday
nights were generally for visiting and waiting up to see who would get
in
next. Saturday was the day for the big stuff and Sunday morning people
would often have practise, Peerage meetings and such.

I have to say, it's harder for me to do this since the ground has gotten

harder over the years and full of rocks no to say I have other problems.

There seems to be a lot of issues besides holding championships and
such.
Maybe we need to examine how to have events where people want to stay.
(LOL).
