If that's true, then they were only called Vikings when they were headed
towards a prey location, and while there were there pillaging, 

 

Ergo, they Were called something else on the way home...

My Dear Lady Gwyneth, 

I hate to correct you, but the Vikings CAN'T give up, because Viking is
a verb...basically it was a job...or at least an action,...to go a
Viking...would be a correct phrase. I think what you wanted to say was
that the Nordmani (Northmen) had seen the light and given up, which of
course, no self respecting Norseman (or woman) would ever do...
