garb
1591, "elegance, stylishness," from M.Fr. garbe "graceful outline," from It. garbo "grace, elegance," perhaps from Gmc. (cf. O.H.G. gar(a)wi "dress, equipment, preparation;" see gear). Sense of "fashion of dress" is first attested 1622. The verb is from 1836.

If "garbe" refers, in civilized lands, to demeanor or outer presence,
that begs the question, what do those in civilized lands call what they
wear upon their bodies to hide their nakedness?

Salut cozyns,
No. Only the Anglés (and some anglais-speaking Allemandes). They have
this
bizarre notion that question of garbe refer to a sheaf of wheat.
In civilized lands, we recognize that garbe is a references to one's
demeanor or outer presence. I would not normally assume that any gentle
was
seriously considering donning a sheaf of wheat, but from the concern
generated, I suppose the Anglés must do this fairly often.
