Hi John,

I wanted to tell you how impressed I was with your doublet. I did notice
that you cringed when I asked to look at it (and unfortunately, I get that
reaction much more than I would like). It looked very well made, and it
seems that you certainly have the pattern right (or very close at least).
There are people who go their entire time in the SCA, who never look that
good. I would like to talk with you more about possible adaptations for
armor, and for when you make your everyday clothes.

There are a couple of books in my library that I would like to show you next
week, Patterns of Fashion by Janet Arnold, and the Tailor's Pattern Book by
Juan Alcega.

Janet Arnold was able to handle several period garments and draft patterns
from them. I am told there are a few errors, but it is an incredible
resource with very detailed pictures of period garment construction.

Juan Alcega's book is a period pattern book from about 1560 (I think). It
is Spanish, but many of the shapes are similar, plus it details layout and
piecing.

Lastly, I would like to encourage you to attend Laurel's Prize Tourney /
Hunter's Moon in early September. It is close enough to day trip (which is
probably what we will be doing). You will get to see our premier costumers
and their work. You will probably also get to meet Don Edward, a very nice
gentleman, and possibly one of the best dressed rapier fighters in the
kingdom. Here's the link: *

I would be happy to provide loaner feast gear to you if you do not have any
yet.

Please let me know if you have any questions.

Elisabetta
