[Bryn-gwlad] Sunday Practice/UT Recruiting Again

I would like to chime in as well on the issue of Sunday practices, though the point may have been beaten to death already.
I want one. I have a number of friends who are at a tipping point, interested in joining the SCA, but unable/unwilling to come to Tuesday PiP for various reasons, work, schedule, it cuts into rest time, et cetera. A number of them have expressed surprise that there was no Sunday practice. That being said, I would love it if there was a fighter practice of any sort at Twin Lakes park. That would dovetail nicely with so many things for me. Combining archery practice and FP2 makes sense, and since it is not far from the populace meeting of one of the local LARP groups, some mingling/poaching is possible. With a Sunday practice in that area, I think I can get several more people to come take a look at BG.
The downside is that Twin Lakes does nothing to assist in recruitment efforts at UT. I propose that these be discussed as separate issues. If you want to recruit at UT, consider demos in visible areas, set up a drum circle at the hippie bead fair on the drag, flyers, the usual. This has all been said a thousand times, so I won't belabor the point.
I wonder if the best targets for recruitment... wow, that is gonna look bad for whichever NSA operative reads this... the best targets are going to be the people who are soon going to graduate from UT and will be around Austin for a while. Many new college students are too busy for a real commitment to the SCA, and tend to be casual participants. A recent or soon-to-be graduate often is a bit rootless and looking for a community/network of friends, and might become more deeply involved. We all know how many stay here in Austin after they graduate. I suspect that this is a sub-pop worth targeting.

If you were a poor Indian with no weapons, and a bunch of conquistadors came up to you and asked where the gold was, I don't think it would be a good idea to say, "I swallowed it. So sue me."
