I am the steward and I have talked to the outgoing who is running the competition.
  I have it on good authority that all the candidates are very excited about having a Saxon/Viking bardic champion.

That decision may be waiting for Their Nexcellencies to be named, since 
presumably whoever
will be the new B&B will want some input into who their first Bard will be.

Of course, I'm neither Steward nor candidate, so I can't say for sure...
