We have one of those THINGS in our garage..along with something that throws stuff at people and some sort of really big tent thingy, a big pillow thing with a target on it and a bunch of tools that make a LOT of noise...

As for your question about the forge, I am not aware of any wide area 
restrictions on such things. You'd more likely find such a restriction as 
part of a specific homeowners association. Around here most neighborhoods 
have deed restrictions enforced by the local homeowners association, which is 
another good reason for looking further out where you're less likely to be 
part of a neighborhood.
