(ie my supervisors/and some co-workers see, barely understand half what I 
say...ie like non-ferrous wire....they wanted to know what did a ferris 
wheel have to do with the metal wire I was trying to tell them about /sigh)

I will delurk long enough to comment.  My family is living in Sendero 
Springs off of 1431.  I havent been playing in years, well since I moved

Maybe not...with the new toll roads it takes me about 20-25 minutes to

MessageI'm sure that is waht the Statesman is thinking of, but the reasoning 
is incorrect.   Grackles are protected by the migratory birds act.   
Starligns are not, not sure about rock pigeons; they are protected if they 
are native to North America.    All animals are protected from acts of 
cruelty, unless the law specifically defines it as something else, such as 
hunting - and that applies specifically to species the law says one can 
hunt.   You cannot just hunt any animal you feel like.   You cannot, for 
instance, hunt stray dogs and cats for game, and we have people in the city 
who belong to cultures that eat dogs and cats.   One must also be hunting 
them, for game, for the hunting exceptions to what is cruelty to animals to 
apply.   Poisoning is not hunting.

  If one poisons animals one has to target specific animals that are posing 
a clear threat on land one owns.  For instance, you can poison mice, rats, 
skunks and squirrels, and (gasp) bats, on your own property.  One cannot 
just throw poison around the streets downtown, even if only one species of 
animal will eat it.   You also can't poison animals on your property that 
are not recognized as vermin that carry disease or cause house fires, which 
pretty much consists of mice, rats, skunks, squirrels, and rats.

     I am on the Department of State Health Services Region 7 (where we are) 
veterinarian's e-mail list, and get e-mails from DSHS both at work and ant 
home.  They always send out an e-mail whenever there is anything to report, 
and they never send out e-mails until they have accurate and factual 
information.

     Since I have received no e-mails from DSHS yet on this topic, it is 
safe to conclude that a) testing of all the specimens is not yet completed, 
and b) any suggestions of possible causes, like poisoning, are merely 
conjecture at this point, though that may certainly turn out to be the cause 
in the end.

     If the birds were intentionally poisoned, I'd sure hate to be the poor 
soul who did it, or ordered it done, as something will certainly hit the fan 
over this!

     My office is just west of downtown at Cesar Chavez & Mopac, but I'm 
teleworking from home today, thank God!
