With Colin on that on...I ran my loud dryer (just belt)till it took three
cycles to get a load dry....when I did the price checks just on the belt
replacement, it was cheaper to get a new dryer...I got a deal at that time
from Conn's who delivered it...and sent the other to Goodwill, who said
they can fix it (it did work, just needed belt fixed)...and I got a tax
deduction for the donation /shrug

If cost problem you can go the rent to own thing but while looks cheap
payments will equal more than if bought a new one up front....but if no
money up front...can be an option

Maintenance? Last washer/dryer set I had was 13 yrs old (the one I ended up
donating) was I suppose to maintenace it? : ) oops

They do make house calls, but at 8 years you're probably better off
replacing
it rather than trying to repair it. The cost of the house call plus repairs
will probably approach the cost of a new one. As a bonus they'll take the
old one away when they deliver the new one (including the stairs).
