[Bryn-gwlad] Chivalric Tiny Tourney--July 17

I'm not even sure it's specifically by those "running" the list, but the
folks "who are into Pas" and "wear lots of shiny armor", seem to stand
around telling everyone that's how they are required to do it now...
It used to be that having your foot touching the barrier was deemed
acceptable,
And as secondary less strict format, you could keep your foot within the
H formed by the barrier and the feet that hold it up, allowing
One to take a half step to a step in and out. With your blows...
Occasionally even the barrier was fought "as armored" and you could do
anything, one rarest occasions you could even jump it or run around it
Which while silly, was fun, especially to watch... (I'll never forget
the look on the guys face when Kein ran around the end of the
barrier...)
Please everyone don't think I'm trying to force you to stop fighting the
barrier however you want... I just think it was cooler when
It was more open, and the "pas loving, shiny armor folks" got to
theatrically step up to the Barrier slap their gauntlet down
On the barrier and Proclaim in a booming voice to the Gallery "My Hand
shall not leave this Barrier"... or "My Hips shall not leave this
barrier for the whole fight"
And the whole Gallery went "OOOOOooooohhhhhhh..." Because that was the
Cooler more "word-famey" way to do it...
God that was Great Theater too.. I can still see in my mind Sir Connor
and others at the great tourneys of the Past... Lyons, Lyonesse, some of
the Great BrynGwlad Pas...
IMHO It was just SOOOO much cooler... and at the same time. You could
still move around enough to make the fight fun for those who didn't like
to fight that way, without being corrected, told you were doing it wrong
or being looked down upon.
Again, Just my opinion, and about what _I_ miss about "the good old
days".
Which I guess, means I officially get my "old fart" membership card...
Now where is Iolo to sign it and authorize me ....:)

In general, is this holding onto the barrier a requirement in the rules
or a convention that seems to be in use today...put in place by whomever
is running the list?

We also have indestructible shields and no lower leg targeting,
I am not a fan of holding onto the barrier, but being close to or in
contact with the barrier with at least 1 part of the body is my prefered
method.

The convention I've seen used most for barrier fights
nowadays require
the fighter to be 'in contact' with the barrier, but not
with a hand.
The combatant is required to keep his/her front leg in
contact with the
barrier.
