The Order of the Halberd and the Order of the Dreigiau Bryn are both
AoA-level Baronial orders (as opposed to awards). They are equal to each
other. The Halberd was closed some years ago, when the DB was created by the
third Baron and Baroness. (There can be only one active Baronial order
active at a time.) Both are (were) given for exceptional service to the
Barony. Some people view it as the "peerage" order for the Barony -- the
most prestigious thing the Baron can bestow on one of his populace. In this
Barony, the members are consulted on prospective members, though it is not a
binding recommendation on the part of the order.
The Golden Martlet is also a service award, but it ranks below the DB/H in
precedence. No formal consultation is sought on prospective members. It is
usually given to someone who has distinguished himself by service to the
Barony where the DB would not yet be appropriate, though that is not an
absolute restriction. Martlets have been given to DB/Hs and even to
Chivalry/Laurel/Pelican-level peers when their continued and continuing
Baronial service is considered to still be worthy of further notice.
