Another version of this is a large coffee can filled with concrete. Just
use a small tube down the center, set into the concrete to be able to
place the rod into. It does not have to fit very tight and can be
shimmed if you like. This will be heavy but portable.

The same concept can be used with a christmas tree stand, just put the
small tube into the stand then fill the stand with concrete.

The rod that is typically used is realatively flexible, much like a car
antenna. We usually just cut Xs into the tennis balls, then they stay up
on the rod without having to tape.

Dore has one that came with a welded foot stand. I'll try to ask him to
bring it out on Tuesday so you can see the whole set up.
